Sacred visits, enduring places
Two historic gurdwaras preserve Hoshiarpur district’s connections with Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji.

Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji
Hoshiarpur connection: Gurdwara Sri Garna Sahib at Bodal, near Dasuya.
The sixth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, is associated with the historic shrine at Bodal. Sikh historical accounts connect the site with a visit during which Guru Sahib rested beneath a garna tree. The tree and the gurdwara’s name preserve that remembrance in the district’s sacred landscape.
The district administration identifies Garna Sahib as a religious destination approximately 39 kilometres from Hoshiarpur. This is a connection through a commemorated visit, rather than a claim that Guru Sahib was born in the district. The shrine offers readers a tangible place through which to explore the region’s Sikh history.

Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji
Hoshiarpur connection: Gurdwara Harian Velan, also written Harian Belan or Harian Vailan.
The seventh Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji, is remembered at Harian Velan through the tradition of his visit to the area. The Encyclopaedia of Sikhism records the shrine’s association with Guru Sahib and the local account of Baba Parjapat bringing creepers as fodder for the Guru’s horses.
Such accounts explain how a local place name became part of religious memory. Stories of blessings surrounding the visit belong to the shrine’s devotional tradition and should be understood in that setting. Harian Velan also has later Sikh historical associations, making it a useful starting point for exploring the district’s religious heritage across generations.
