Hoshiarpur’s identity reaches beyond its bazaars and buildings into the Shivalik foothills. The district administration describes Takhni–Rehmapur as a 382-hectare wildlife sanctuary, approximately 20 kilometres from the city.
A protected forest landscape
Declared a sanctuary in 1999, it takes its name from two villages. The official account describes mixed deciduous forest and varied bird and animal life, including deer, wild boar, jungle cats and pangolins. A species list is not a promise of a sighting.
Before you plan a visit
The district’s official page says prior permission from the Forest Department is required. Confirm current entry arrangements, permitted visiting hours and any restrictions before travelling. The page’s displayed update date is 5 July 2021; this article does not confirm today’s opening status, fees or guided visits.
Keep any permitted visit quiet, follow staff directions and leave the habitat undisturbed.
