Dr. Ravjot Singh’s journey from medical practice to the Punjab Cabinet connects
two important aspects of public life: healthcare and elected representation. An
Aam Aadmi Party leader and MLA from **Sham Chaurasi in Hoshiarpur district**, he
has progressed from practising medicine to handling responsibilities in the state
government.

## Medical Background and Connection with Hoshiarpur

Before entering the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Dr. Singh established his professional
identity as a doctor. His 2022 election affidavit records an **MD in Medicine from
PGI, Chandigarh, completed in 2002**. His medical career has also been associated
with Ravjot Hospital & Cardiac Centre in the Model Town area of Hoshiarpur.

His experience in medicine forms an important part of his public profile, alongside
his subsequent work as a constituency representative and minister.

## Political Entry and the 2022 Breakthrough

Dr. Singh joined the **Aam Aadmi Party in September 2013**. His electoral journey
included contesting the Sham Chaurasi Assembly seat in 2017 and the Hoshiarpur parliamentary
constituency in 2019, before securing victory in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.

Contesting from **Sham Chaurasi (SC)**, he received **60,730 votes**, defeating
Congress candidate and former MLA Pawan Kumar Adia by **21,356 votes**. His share
of the total votes polled was **48.97%**. The result brought him into the 16th Punjab
Legislative Assembly as a first-time MLA.

Following his election, he identified healthcare, road connectivity, internet access
and basic amenities in the semi-hilly **Kandi belt** among his constituency priorities.
These issues reflect the practical challenges faced by residents of Hoshiarpur’s
more remote villages.

## Cabinet Induction and Ministerial Responsibilities

Dr. Singh was inducted into Chief Minister **Bhagwant Mann’s Cabinet on September
23, 2024**, initially receiving the **Local Government and Parliamentary Affairs**
portfolios.

His responsibilities subsequently changed. As of October 2026, he holds the **Jails,
Parliamentary Affairs and NRI Affairs** portfolios. He assumed charge as Jails Minister
in March 2026, outlining priorities concerning prison facilities, rehabilitation
and the correctional system.

## Continuing Engagement with Sham Chaurasi

His constituency work remains part of his ministerial schedule. On **October 19,
2026**, he reviewed projects concerning Health and Wellness Centres, Aam Aadmi Clinics,
playgrounds and civic development in Sham Chaurasi, directing officials to expedite
pending work.

From medical practice in Hoshiarpur to legislative representation and Cabinet office,
Dr. Ravjot Singh’s career forms part of the district’s contemporary political history.
His public responsibilities now span local development, state administration and
issues affecting Punjabis living overseas.
